Lloyd's Cricket Club History

The History of Lloyd's Cricket Club

Lloyd's Cricket has a recorded history dating back to 1922 and over many years its records are sprinkled with some exceptional performances, which is not that surprising when one considers the number of notable County and Test cricketers to have represented the club during that time (including the likes of Sir Gubby Allen, Freddie Brown, Peter May, R.M.V. Robins and Brian Valentine - to name but a few).

In the early years it was a Lloyd's XI that took the field, but in 1974 an official Lloyd's Cricket Club was formed under the guidance and direction of our first Chairman, Bertie Brasier. The club has gone from strength to strength and retains many long-established fixtures against the likes of Sevenoaks Vine and Woodford Wells in their cricket weeks. We have enjoyed rivalry against the Stock Exchange for over 60 years and also play other City institutions, club sides and even the occasional touring side. We currently play about 10 regular season fixtures, but are looking at adding possibly adding one or two more as our playing membership continues to increase. In the more recent years we have also played, with much success, in the City Twenty20 Trophy against the Baltic and Stock Exchanges.
Touring is an important part of any club and LCC is no different: the club's first tour was an undefeated foray to Hong Kong in 1978 and since then Lloyd's has toured on several more occasions (to places as diverse as Paris, South Africa, Singapore, Malaysia, Bermuda, Argentina, Brazil and the USA) with varying degrees of success on the field, but always fine ambassadors off it! Our most recent tour was to South Africa in 2017 and was a great success all round, the side playing with great spirit, winning 4 of the 6 fixtures against strong opposition. The hospitality afforded by our hosts was exceptional and a huge thanks must go to Simon Turner and Sumaridge for their continued generosity and support of Lloyd's Cricket Club.

The club officers are currently James Skinner (President) and Hugh Wilson (Chairman).
